now i beg you for leaving me alone
i won't love a married woman who lives
with her husband, to whom nothing is known
and why don't you love him for what he gives?
you are always proud that you have a brain
but i myself, prefer a maiden's head,
you accuse me for putting you through pain
by my loving a young woman instead
oh dear heaven, are there morals and trust?
when a married woman decides to meet
another man, her brain is filled with lust
and, o, she runs around with no firm feet
i respect your degrees for your hard work
but love the innocent face of your clerk

without a purse, to pleasure for the poor
to probation instead of prison
and to power by personation pure
be with the prof'ssor to prosperity
or else you will proceed to poverty

two people were by two trees, she and I:
she seemed to be doing geometry
though she was oft gazing at the blue sky
and i was absorbed in my poetry
then suddenly giggles came from her side
which intrigued me and interrupt'd my thought
i turned and saw her sweet smiles big and wide
and smiled back in a happy mood she brought
i thus desired to converse, but found no word
and moved around not knowing where to look
she opened her mouth, and yet no sound was heard
and she constantly opened and closed her book
was she the one that i had wished to find
or was i the one that she had in mind?

i now declare no longer i'll love you
as my heart's passion lies in stat and math
love for love's sake will render nothing new
except a heavy sigh along my path
however cold and cruel my act may seem
my dedication to pure truth will yield
to no mundane love and no earthly dream
and don't forget the wound will soon be healed
in other world if there is ever one
i pray you will create my life's design
but now our separate paths have begun
you'll find your love which is as dear as mine
a man must follow where his heart will lead
if not then life is dull and future dread

a sudden knock at my door startled me:
who would visit this lone place so remote?
as i saw a girl with a face gloomy
my heart sank like a heavily wrecked boat
she closed her eyes before she drank
for fearing that she would see her own face
at this moment my mind became all blank
so where were my old love's beauty and grace?
under her darkened brow lay one black eye
her fair cheeks were carved with a tiger's claws
her shining hair was now so dull and dry
and his hard paws had broken her soft jaws
never live with a man for his money
only true love is as sweet as honey
